Rashid Salleh is a self-taught visual artist of Javanese and Indian heritage, born and bred in Singapore.
The nature of his work changes over time. His artworks vary from depictions of ordinary subjects to surrealistic, poetic figures on canvas, fabric (batik) and sometimes also on paper.
Inspired by his heritage and local culture, he renders his own visual and conceptual interpretations and imaginations into artworks that emerged through observations in everyday life and immersion in local culture. Although he mostly works on commission, his passion is to promote local culture and heritage through modern art.
